Responsibilities:

Cummins Allison is a global leader in developing advanced technologies and equipment for counting, sorting and authenticating currencies including banknotes and coins. Cummins Allison machines use advanced sensors in sophisticated mechanical systems, employ embedded software controls and Windows based customer interfaces. We currently have an opening in our R&D facility in Carlsbad, CA (Greater San Diego area), where a very dynamic team of scientists and engineers focused on development of innovative, advanced sensor systems to denominate and authenticate banknotes and coins in high-speed applications. We currently have a need for a creative and energetic scientist to conduct research projects on device physics with emphasis on optical and magnetic devices, and be responsible for modeling, design and engineering development that leads to new products.

 

Duties will include:

  • Research, evaluate and develop new sensor technologies and systems with potential to improve our products.

  • Carry out projects to evaluate various sensor technologies and systems with emphasis on optical and magnetic devices.

  • Model, design, fabricate, and carry out preliminary proof of principle experiments.

  • Collect, analyze and report on experimental data, including data validity.

  • Identify patentable technologies and pursue potential patents.

  • advise senior management on feasibility and applicability issues of new concepts and new technologies.


Qualifications:

  • MS or preferably PhD degree in Science or Engineering

  • 10-15 years experience in physics and engineering of sensor technologies

  • Advanced knowledge in physics and particularly physics of magnetism and optics.

  • Strong experience in the physics and engineering of sensors with emphasis on magnetics and optics is highly desirable.

  • Experience with magneto resistive and Line Imaging sensors would be a plus.

  • Proven ability and track-record of designing and carry out preliminary proof of principle experiments

  • High degree of initiative and problem solving ability.

Software Design Engineer – Mt. Prospect, IL

Responsibilities:

Our Software Development group needs solid, motivated engineers to contribute to our growth. Our software product development group works on both embedded processor systems that control the machine functions and the windows GUI user interface systems. We primarily use C, C++ and C# for our development activities.


This Software Design Engineer position will involve all phases of software development from requirements definition and software design through implementation, testing and product support. There will be responsibilities in development focused mainly on embedded processors with the possibility of windows applications work as well. Our software development is performed in a controlled environment using state of the art version control tools. Software engineering responsibilities also involve supporting products that are in field trials, in production and or at customer sites.


Qualifications:

We are looking for candidates with:


  • a BS in Electrical or Computer Engineering or related experience.

  • 3 or more years practical experience in software development ideally with both embedded and windows development experience.

  • Development skills using C/C++, C#

  • Familiarity with RS232, RS-485 Communication interfaces.

Electronics Design Engineer - Mt. Prospect

Responsibilities:

Our Electronics Design Engineer position involves all phases of the design process in our hardware development function including working with cross-functional teams as well on independent projects. Initially this position will train in various areas of our development group before getting into project work with assistance from senior staff. Duties will include:

 

Work on designs that will become more complicated with experience.
Participate in component, PCB, and system testing.
Participate in RoHS conversion and obsolete replacement designs.
Learn and follow engineering standards, guidelines, and practices to support project and group objectives.

Position Overview:

We are looking for a creative and energetic Analog Electronics Engineer who would be responsible for design, development and testing of advanced sensor systems including the associated electronics. The new team member will be involved in all aspects of the sensor system development process from research to design, prototype development and testing of the final sensor systems. The scope of technologies include optical, magnetic, electromagnetic, capacitive and ultrasonic. This is a hands-on position that also would involve advising on issues of feasibility and applicability of new technologies to new concepts and future projects. Our position of Analog Electronics Engineer - R&D will:


  • Support the design, application and engineering development for sensors incorporated in our products.

  • Carry out research projects to evaluate various sensor technologies and systems.

Manufacturing Engineer – CNC Machining -- Mt. Prospect, IL

Responsibilities:

Cummins-Allison is committed to manufacturing in Illinois and we have a new position in our engineering group for a manufacturing engineer to develop precision machining manufacturing processes and process routing instructions for use in production. This position will write various project documents and implement process improvement projects using a 3D-2D CAD System. We have a low volume and high mix manufacturing environment.

Duties will include:

  • Create/update/maintain routings, work instructions and blueprints to meet customer

  • specifications and quality standards.

  • Interpret engineering specifications (ASTM, ASE, SAE, Customer Specs ...) and determine conformance.

  • Develop the processing steps and CNC programming for production of close tolerance, complex jobs.

  • Create and maintain Technical Data Sheets.

  • Help determine course of action and written procedure/modification for rework activities.

  • Review engineering change requests to determine cost/performance impact.

  • Design and carry out time studies, method analysis, and other work measurement activities.

  • Confer with management, engineering, and other staff regarding manufacturing capabilities.
